Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Detroit Renaissance Center, Detroit MI, three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
The Drawback Senior Analyst is responsible for overseeing GM’s U.S. Duty Drawback programs. The senior analyst will identify drawback opportunities, develop and execute efficiencies throughout the drawback process, draft comprehensive process documentation and controls, execute drawback recovery reporting and forecasting, and ensure that GM is maximizing U.S. Duty Drawback filings. The role serves as the primary point of contact with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in relation to Duty Drawback. The position includes drawback system development, optimization, and testing undertaken in conjunction with GMIT and MIC Customs Solutions. The senior analyst will also provide oversight for service providers and on-site contractors who will be filing some drawback claims. The position will also provide insights and guidance in other Post Entry areas, as time allows and as requested by the Post Entry Manager. This role will work cross-functionally with other areas of Finance, Manufacturing and Global Product Development to build drawback opportunities and ensure they are considered in the GVDP process. The Drawback Senior Analyst reports to the U.S. Post Entry Manager.
What You'll Do
Oversee Drawback analyst(s) filing Drawback claims
Create procedures and internal controls
Work closely with IT (internal and external) to create efficiencies in Drawback process and systems
Ensure duty recovery is maximized and recovery budget is closely monitored and adjusted as needed
Calculate Drawback recovery projections to be included in the annual EBIT target
Work with cross-functional areas to ensure drawback is claimed in all potential areas
Participate in cross-functional Drawback team working to include Drawback impacts into the GVDP process
Oversee CBP Drawback claim inquiries on desk reviews
File quarterly Drawback Manufacturing Ruling application updates to CBP
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelors degree
3+ years of customs or related work experience
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and manage work within agreed timelines, while producing high quality deliverables (e.g., documentation of controls, compliance review / testing workpapers, reports, etc.) that are clear and concise
Effective collaboration with business unit management and other functional related teams necessary for facilitating the global compliance program
Ability to quickly grasp and understand customs related concepts, standards, locally relevant business provisions, etc. to add value and provide insightful recommendations that are pragmatic, address root cause and process opportunities/weaknesses, and lead to increased efficiencies/improved controls
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal, team, and partnering skills
Capability to navigate duties in an ambiguous and ever-changing environment
Process improvement minded with technical ability in, or desire to learn, software such as KNIME, PowerBI, Access, Excel, Teams, SAP, and other process simplification tools
Demonstrated effective, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to effectively lead employees

Bachelors degree with concentration in Accounting, Finance, Logistics or other business-related subject
U.S. Duty Drawback experience/expertise
5+ years U.S. Post Entry experience
Licensed U.S. Customs Broker
