CCHCS seeks to fill a Limited-term/Full-time Pharmacist I position in Medical Services – Pharmacy Services Clinical Pharmacist Workforce Support.

Under the direction of the Medical Services, Pharmacy Services, Clinical Pharmacist Workforce Support Pharmacist II, the Pharmacist I promotes rational and cost-effective drug therapy through close participation in the drug therapy decision-making process with assigned physicians and other medical personnel. Under indirect supervision, provides clinical pharmacy services using approved protocols in collaboration with other health professionals, including managing patient drug therapy, and providing patient education. Educates providers, pharmacists and other health care professionals re: pharmaceutical care. Travel is required.

This position is located in Pharmacy Services, Medical Services, which provides safe, effective and efficient health care to patients within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s 35 institutions. The Central Pharmacy dispenses prescriptions to both inpatient and outpatient settings and provides clinical pharmacy services where necessary. Pharmaceutical care is provided to each prison by the local staff of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians through all levels of patient care (inpatient to ambulatory).

Knowledge of: Compounding of prescriptions and stock pharmaceutical preparations; drugs,  chemicals, and pharmaceutical supplies required in the operation of a dispensary; laws pertaining to dispensing and use of narcotics and poisons; principles of effective supervision.

Ability to: Compound prescriptions and stock pharmaceutical preparations; supervise the work of others; keep records and prepare reports; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; assimilate and provide information on drugs and their actions.
