Job Title: Commis Chef
Location: Astor Club Chicago, Chicago, IL

Pay: $19‑$20 per hour
Benefits: Eligibility for benefits after 90 days

Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated, energetic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at Astor Club Chicago. In this full-time role, you will work closely with Chef Trevor Teich and our experienced culinary staff, contributing to the preparation and production of high‐quality dishes that reflect our refined continental menu with French influences. This position offers a unique opportunity to grow your culinary skills in a prestigious, private club environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Assist with the preparation and production of foods, garnishes, and ingredients according to detailed prep and recipe lists.
  • Quality & Consistency: Ensure every dish meets our high standards by accurately measuring and following recipes.
  • Inventory & Storage: Receive deliveries, store goods properly, and monitor inventory levels, alerting management when supplies run low.
  • Cleanliness & Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workspace by performing basic cleaning tasks of prep areas and equipment.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate with both front-of-house and back-of-house teams to ensure seamless operations and an outstanding guest experience.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all health, food safety, and hygiene regulations, including proper labeling and temperature control.
  • Additional Duties: Assist with the preparation of staff meals and participate in special events on days when the club is not usually open.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to culinary excellence and passion for food.
  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen environment is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, chef-driven setting.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to take direction and quickly pivot priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for at least 8 hours per shift.
  • Must be capable of lifting or moving items up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs multiple times during a shift.

Schedule & Hours:

  • Primary Hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Weekly Commitment: Minimum of 32 hours per week
  • Additional Shifts: Availability for occasional special events on days when the club is not typically open
