Job Description

About Synolo Therapeutics:

Synolo Therapeutics, an early-stage biotechnology company launched by RA Capital, is pioneering the development of precision-targeted immunotherapies. Powered by computational protein design and proprietary technologies which yield biological data sets at unprecedented scale and resolution, we are building a pipeline of first-in-class multi-specific biologics with novel functionalities. Synolo was founded by pioneers in the field of protein design and engineering, synthetic biology, DNA sequencing, immunology, and biologics drug discovery and development.

About RA Capital:

RA Capital Management funds and builds healthcare and life science companies using an evidence-based investment approach informed by TechAtlas, a think tank within RA Capital which analyzes scientific and clinical data from academic literature and industry sources to anticipate how breakthroughs might impact industry stakeholders, physicians, patients, and policymakers. TechAtlas' analyses are captured in a unique collection of competitive landscapes, or ‘maps’, that identify competitive therapeutics, diagnostics, research tools, and/or technological capabilities in a given area.

About the Role:

Synolo Therapeutics is seeking a curious, innovative, and highly collaborative Associate Scientist/Scientist in Protein Science to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist with a passion for discovering and developing novel medicines who thrives working in a fast-paced startup environment.

In this role, you will contribute to the cloning, expression, purification and biophysical characterization of antibody drug leads and other protein-based reagents. You will also play a key role in our drug discovery and development programs, working closely with our cross-functional team to apply your expertise in protein biochemistry. As part of a dynamic and creative team, you will help advance our mission to develop novel therapeutics to improve patients’ lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Key contributor to the maintenance and growth of in-house capabilities of protein expression in mammalian cells (e.g. CHO) and of protein purification to support research activities, project goals, and platform development
  • Design and execute experiments to express and purify multi-specific biologics
  • Perform biophysical and biochemical characterization to assess protein solubility, stability, and binding properties
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows and troubleshoot challenges
  • Study protein solubility and stability with various biophysical techniques
  • Analyze experimental results and communicate findings clearly and effectively

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, expression, and purification of recombinant antibodies and/or other classes of proteins
  • Expertise in protein purification and characterization using FPLC and HPLC systems, with familiarity in various types of chromatography techniques including Protein A/G affinity, IMAC, ion exchange, SEC, and HIC
  • Extensive experience with current molecular biology and cell biology techniques, including molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture and transfection, Western blot, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, etc
  • Proven experience in determining binding kinetics and affinity between antigen and antibody using SPR, BLI, or monolith
  • Hands-on experience in characterization of antibodies using techniques such as DSF, DLS, and/or sec-MALS
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively, ensuring consistent follow-through on action items
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly

Education & Experience:

  • We welcome applications from individuals with diverse experiences who are excited to work in a fast-moving biotech environment
  • BS/BA, MS/MA, or PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. For Associate Scientist: MS with 3+ years industry experience or BA/BS with 5+ years industry experience. Level commensurate with experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Practical experience in the biophysical and biochemical analysis of proteins is strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with expressing, purifying and characterizing bi-specific or multi-specific biologics
  • Experience performing developability studies on lead candidate molecules is a plus

At Synolo Therapeutics, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment where all individuals are valued and treated with dignity. We believe that diversity drives innovation and strengthens our ability to make a meaningful impact through our work. We are committed to being an equal opportunity employer who ensures that all qualified applicants receive equal consideration for employment without regard to neurodiversity, race/ethnicity, color, national origin, religion, gender, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, disability, genetic information, military service, covered/protected veteran status or any other federal, state or local protected class.
